The first lesson in the 'Building workflows in monday.com' course introduces the use case which we'll be following all throughout the course. We'll also understand more about how the course is structured and how the exercises work.

​In the first step of our methodology, we learn how to define a workflow. We start by understanding what a workflow is and isn’t and then how to distinguish between a process workflow and a project. Finally, we get to know the key questions which help to better define any workflow.

In the 2nd step of the workflow methodology, we’ll learn about visualizing a workflow. First, we will dive into how to create a process map and then learn about the monday.com building blocks, which you will use to convert your workflows into Boards and Dashboards!

Moving onto the Step 3 in our building workflows methodology, Execution. In this lesson, we start by importing data from a spreadsheet to create a repository, then we learn about popular board structures for projects and processes before building Patricia’s process board.

In this lesson, we’ll level up our workflow by: - Automating manual steps and data flow using Automations - Connecting Boards and data using Connect Boards and Mirror Columns - Bringing new data into our Boards from outside using the Forms View - Reporting on the data in our Boards using the Dashboard View.

Now you have learned how to build a process workflow and optimize it. Before we start rolling the boards out to our team, it’s a good time to check if there are other workflows we want to manage in monday.com. In this lesson, we discover how to build a project board using a template, how to optimize it and then report on a project portfolio.
